OUR STORY
OUR STORY
The Tassie Makers Festival traces its origins back to a local community radio station, WayFM. Initially launched as the Tasmanian Makers and Creators Expo, the event aimed to highlight the diverse talents of local artisans and creators. Toby, Jim, and Ezra, who were all employees at WayFM, played a crucial role in refining and organizing these early festivals. Their dedication and vision helped shape the festival into a beloved community event.
When Toby, Jim, and Ezra decided to move on from WayFM, the station made a heartfelt decision to gift the festival to them. The trio, fueled by big dreams and a deep passion for the local maker community, took over the event and rebranded it as the Tassie Makers Festival.
From the outset, the new team at the Tassie Makers Festival was committed to giving back to the community. They maintained strong ties with WayFM, continuing to make contributions and support the station that had given them their start.
After more than a year of full ownership, during which they implemented numerous new and creative ideas, the team decided it was time to expand. Their vision extended beyond Launceston, and they set their sights on Hobart. To add more flavor to their offerings, they introduced the Tassie Makers Food Festival, a new event set to debut alongside the craft festival.
As they prepare for their first festival in Hobart, the team is filled with anticipation. They expect record-breaking attendance and are excited to bring their unique celebration of Tasmanian creativity and craftsmanship to a larger audience.
To manage this growth effectively, the Tassie Makers Festival has now split into two dedicated teams. Jim remains in Launceston, focusing on continuing the success and growth of the festival there. Meanwhile, Toby and Ezra are leading the expansion efforts in Hobart, bringing their passion and innovative ideas to the new venue. This strategic division allows each team to concentrate on their respective events, ensuring that both Launceston and Hobart receive the attention and care needed to thrive.
